MS Assembly: Trainor Dance Company
Date: Wednesday - September 27, 2017
Time: 8:25 AM to 9:15 AM
Location: Jeslo Harris Theater
Trainor Dance Company, under the direction of Caitlin Trainor, choreographer, will perform at Riverdale on Wednesday, September 27.
The company plans to present two highly contrasting pieces, "Faux Pas" and "Group Soup." The company will examine the roots and seeds of dance as they deconstruct the pieces and engage the audience with a demonstration and talk back following the performance.
If you would like to attend this assembly, and you are not a homebase teacher, please contact Antoinette Quarshie, since seating in the theater is limited.
Faux Pas is a neoclassical piece danced to Mozart, wherein the dancers wear full length, jewel tone silk skirts.
The piece is primarily formal in that the designs and patterns of the body and movement in relation to music are of primary importance, but it is chock full of imagery ranging from peonies blooming to a RuPaul fashion show.
At times the movement mirrors the music, and at other times the dancers move in conversation with the music, with periods of stillness and hyper-speed against the base rhythm.
Group Soup is a playful audience interactive piece based on a lexicon of movement in which each letter of the alphabet represents a unique movement phrase.
The dance is spontaneously created in dialogue between audience and performers, with duration, sequence, repetition, and flow all determined by the audience.
