Artists and Speakers
In the Upper School, guest speakers demonstrate Riverdale's core character values such as grit, optimism, and gratitude and address contemporary issues around race, economic inequality, social justice, gender identification and sexuality, and global understanding. In previous years, speakers have included Harrie Bakst '03, a cancer survivor and founding partner of Weinstein-Carnegie Philanthropic Group; Calvin Hill '65, the first Ivy League football player to be drafted by the NFL, who now works as a motivational speaker, consultant and philanthropist; and Debby Irving and Norma Johnson, writers who explore racial justice; and former Pennyslvania Gov. Ed Rendell '61. Riverdale seniors and other members of the Upper School community also speak and perform throughout the year.
