Posted 11/05/2014 12:05PM

Eight Riverdale varsity soccer players have been chosen to participate in the New York City Mayor's Cup Independent School All-Star Teams.

The girls team includes seniors Amaris Hemmings, forward; Jennifer Kronish, goalie; Amanda Schnell, defense; Courtney Taylor, midfield; and Sarah Tiffany, midfield. The head coach is Orlando Osorio from Riverdale; the assistant coach is Tim Sullivan from Horace Mann.

The boys team includes seniors Jeremy Barovick, midfield; Noah Stern, goalie; and Yuheng Wang, forward. The head coach is Neil Berniker from Horace Mann; the assistant coach is Juan De Rosa from UNIS. Riverdale's coach, Andrew Fitzgerald, was offered a coaching spot but had to decline because of a scheduling conflict.

The Mayor's Cup All-Star games will be played on Nov. 15-16 at Poly Prep. The Independent Schools' girls and boys teams will play teams fielded by the Catholic High School Athletic Association on Nov 16. The winners will play teams from the Public Schools Athletic League the next day. The Public Schools teams won the event last year and received a bye into the final.
