Senior Athletes Sign Celebratory College Letters
Posted 04/13/2017 09:40AM

With their families, friends, and teachers cheering them on, seven Riverdale athletes today signed celebratory letters for their respective colleges.

Gabrielle Herzig will play golf for Pomona College; Jackson Karofsky will swim for Williams College; Jake Klores will play basketball for Columbia University; Jacob Rhee will play squash for Yale University; Katelyn Schwartz will play lacrosse for Kenyon College; Morgan Wolfe will swim for the University of Chicago; and Phillip Wong will swim for Wesleyan University

Before the signing, Riverdale Director of Athletics John Pizzi addressed the gathering: "One of the mothers I spoke to this morning said that this ceremony two years ago inspired her son to be sitting here today. I hope there are a couple of underclassmen out there right now who hope to be sitting at this table in a few years, and working as hard as these guys did."

Each student gave words of thanks to their coaches, teachers, and families.

Gaby Herzig thanked Coach Pizzi and Coach Doyle "for making my RIverdale golf experience amazing."

Jake Klores acknowledged that he "couldn't have gotten here without the support of everyone around me," and thanked his teachers, advisors, and coaches, and his parents "for going above and beyond to be the most supportive, loving, caring, most selfless people I know."

Jackson Karofsky thanked his swimming coaches: "Without you guys I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am now."
