Students Award "Change for Changes" Grants
Posted 05/22/2017 03:24PM

Culminating a year of fundraising activities, Lower School students today awarded grants to 10 organizations that support families, animals, and the environment at the annual Service Learning assembly.

The funds came from the "change for changes" effort, in which visitors to the school donate loose change. This year, the students collected nearly $4,200. The Philanthropic Roundtable, a group of fifth graders, researched potential recipients and decided on the following allocations:

Other service projects at the school included a gift drive for children at Abbott House, Mercy Center, and Montefiore Medical Center that brought in more than 500 toys and games for children. Book drives brought in hundreds of volumes for PS/MS 279 in the Bronx and Project Cicero, a citywide group. About 300 boxtops, which can be redeemed for cash, were collected for PS/MS 279. Students donated 280 pairs of children's pajamas for Leake and Watts Services. Finally, students contributed pet food, toys and other items to the Yonkers Animal Shelter.
