On The Beat for Sports Illustrated Kids
Posted 03/03/2016 04:42PM

Andrew Zeidel '21 loves to play sports and read about sports. Now he is writing about sports as a kid reporter for Sports Illustrated Kids.

His first story, Is LSU Football In Danger of Disappearing?, was published on the Sports Illustrated Kids website on Monday. Andrew reports that the Louisiana state government, faced with a $940 million budget shortfall, is debating whether to raise taxes or cut expenses. According to the governor, no programs are off limits, including LSU’s legendary athletics programs.

Andrew pitched the story idea, and when he got the go-ahead, he didn’t waste any time in putting the article together. There was some back-and-forth with his editor, and then success. Just before baseball practice on Monday, he got an email saying that the story had been published. “I called my mom really quickly and I said, ‘It’s up,’ and she knew what that meant. And then I had to go to baseball. It was really exciting.”

Andrew hopes that eventually he’ll be able to interview athletes for the magazine. He’d especially like to write a story on Kristaps Porzingis, a rookie player on the Knicks. “He’s so good,” Andrew said.

Look for his byline.
