Dean System
Riverdale understands the importance of addressing every student’s academic and developmental needs. Each of the three divisions is guided and closely supervised by a team of administrators. In the Middle and Upper School divisions, there are grade-level deans who are responsible for academic advising, discipline, and parental contact for the students in their charge. The 6th, 7th, and 8th grade deans are grade-level specialists who are especially aware of and attentive to Middle School issues and concerns. The Upper School deans begin counseling the students in their class at 9th grade orientation and work with them through 12th grade orientation. The dean system gives the students a close, personal connection with an administrator who ensures that students receive the academic and emotional support they need to navigate their Middle and Upper School experiences.
