|  | Head of School Prior to Riverdale, Dominic Randolph was the Assistant Head Master at The Lawrenceville School, where he was a key educational and administrative leader for the past decade. He arrived at Lawrenceville after a decade of administrative and teaching experiences in Europe and the Middle East, where he chaired the English Departments of two K-12 schools in Saudi Arabia, as well as at the American School of The Hague. After being educated in both the United Kingdom and this country, Dominic graduated from Harvard College (B.A., English and American Language and Literature, 1985) and received his Masters in Education (1995) from Harvard University. Dominic and his wife, Kris, have a daughter, Elsa, who currently attends New York University. |

 Head of Upper School Kent J. Kildahl
Year Appointed: 1998 Education: St. Olaf College - B.A. Oxford - B.A., M.A.  Kent Kildahl was raised in New York City and graduated from Scarsdale High School in Scarsdale, NY in 1971. He graduated with Highest Honors in English and History from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota in 1975. After completing a Master’s Degree with First Class Honours at Oxford University in England (English Language and Literature), he did further graduate work in the Ph.D program in English at Yale University. Kent joined the faculty of St. Albans School for Boys in Washington, D.C., in 1981. He taught English, supervised the dormitory, did admissions and college counseling work, and coached varsity lacrosse and football for five years at St. Albans. In 1985, Kent moved to Miss Hall’s School for Girls in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. During the next nine years (1985-1994), he served as English Department Chair, Head of College Counseling, and Assistant Headmaster. He continued to coach lacrosse. From 1994 to 1998, Kent was Secondary School Principal at the International School of Lusaka, a school of 1,000 students comprising 50 nationalities in the central African nation of Zambia. In July of 1998, Kent took over as Head of the Upper School at Riverdale, where he is currently serving in his twelfth year. He has taught English, History, and Constructing America during his tenure at Riverdale, in addition to his administrative responsibilities. |

 Head of Middle School Milton J. Sipp Year Appointed: 1991 Education: Oberlin - B.A. Harvard - M.Ed.  Milton Sipp has had the good fortune of wearing many hats at Riverdale. In his twelve years at the school he has: served as Director of Admission and Financial Aid; worked in the college office as an assistant director; been an advisor to various activities and to tenth through twelfth graders; coached varsity softball and basketball; and taught in the health and history departments. He is currently in his second rotation as a Dean of Students. Outside of RCS, Milton has served as a National Director on the Board of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and chaired the organization's Membership Committee. He has also been a member of the Board of the Independent School Admissions Association of Greater New York (ISAAGNY) as well as a Board member for the Early Steps Programs in New York City. He is currently on the Board of the newly formed George Jackson Academy in Manhattan. Current Courses: History I • History 7 |

 Head of Lower School Sandy S. Shaller Year Appointed: 1977 Education: New York University - B.S. Columbia - M.A.  Sandy Shaller knew he wanted to work with children when he became a C.I.T. at the age of fifteen; he’s been working with children ever since. Sandy’s life-long love of books and reading lead to degrees in both education and English and he joyfully shares his special knowledge of children’s literature with the students and faculty of the Lower School. Sandy first came to Riverdale as a fifth grade teacher and has not allowed moving into administration to keep him out of the classroom. Along with directing the Lower School/River Campus, Sandy enjoys teaching reading to all the students in the fourth grade. Sandy promoted the creation of the C.A.R.E. program in order to create an educational community in which children were free to take risks and feel safe. During free time, Sandy enjoys his family, books, music, nature and riding his bike, in that order. |

 Director of Studies Michael MichelsonYear Appointed: 1974 Education: Bowdoin - B.A. University of Maine - M.Ed. Teachers College, Columbia - Ed.D.  Michael Michelson is now serving in a new capacity as Director of Studies having been a Dean of Students at Riverdale for eighteen years. Prior to becoming a dean, he served as the Director of the Computer Center and a middle school math teacher. The math teaching remains a passion and he currently continues in that capacity, teaching two sections of honors Precalculus in the Upper School. His responsibilities as Director of Studies include: working closely with department chairs on curricular issues, building the academic schedule and supporting faculty. Mike has an undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College and a master's degree from the University of Southern Maine in Math Education and a doctorate from Columbia University, Teachers College in Curriculum and Teaching.
