Movie Making 101


Brad Anderson, director of the movie, "Beirut," a spy thriller starring Jon Hamm and scheduled for release in April, led a mini-course for Middle Schoolers as part of Project Week in 2017.  In this short video, Anderson shows the students how film editors work. Learn More


Wings on their heels


Now in its third year, Riverdale's Indoor Track team is attracting serious notice. The team includes the top-ranked sophomore miler in the state, and the second-ranked sophomore sprinter in the state in the 300-meter race. Success breeds success, but Coach Karim McFarlane credits Captains Jackson Harris '18 and Audrey Wisch '19 with igniting the team's winning attitude. Learn More



Black History Month

Riverdale faculty and students have created a full schedule of events and discussions in honor of Black History Month, including a drumming performance at the Hill Campus and a jazz performance at the Lower School. The Kansas City Public Library is featuring this Google slideshow created by one of our faculty members.

In the art department, Jason Ruff teaches a design class that emphasizes thoughtful planning and precise craftsmanship. Learn more.


  • Alessia Cara, who won Best New Artist at the 2018 Grammys, came to Riverdale in 2015. Watch her perform her debut single, "Here," for the Middle School.
  • The Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center has recognized Riverdale Country School as an "Age Smart Employer" for promoting generational diversity in its workforce. The center noted Riverdale's sabbatical program for faculty with 10 or more years of service, its "passion grants" that allow employees to pursue a hobby or new interest in the summer months, and its willingness to consider job restructurings and reassignments to accommodate older workers.   • Head of School Dominic A.A. Randolph has been invited to participate in the Global Dialogue for Happiness and the World Government Summit in Dubai this week.  Read more
