Children decorating cards for Riverdale’s 2019 Community Action Day

Riverdale Community Action Day (RCAD) returned to the Hill Campus on Saturday, November 19th from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. The entire Riverdale community – even the youngest Falcons – joined us for a day of service.

RCAD brings together alumni, parents, students, and faculty to support local community organizations and Riverdale’s commitment to service-learning. RCAD’s mission is to take direct action and to meaningfully engage with our community through collective collaborations. This helps teach Riverdale students of every age the power and importance of giving and gratitude.

Alumni, parents, students, and faculty wrapped holiday gifts, cleaned up our nearby park, organized a bake sale, and participated in games with the Challenged Athletes Foundation – all to benefit local organizations. View photos from the day and learn more about RCAD community partners:

Challenged Athletes Foundation
The organization provides opportunities and support to people with physical challenges, so they can pursue active lifestyles through physical fitness and competitive athletics. CAF believes that involvement in sports at any level increases self-esteem, encourages independence, and enhances quality of life.

The Friendly Fridge
The Friendly Fridge, the first community fridge in the Bronx, works to end food insecurity in the Bronx.

Zara’s Connection Club
This holiday season, Zara’s Connection Club (ZCC) is hosting an Amazon wish list for highly needed items at Zara’s Center, an after-school program in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe for AIDS orphaned children. We are sending the children shoes (many of the children walk to school without shoes), hygiene products, water bottles, and other necessities that are significantly more expensive to purchase in Zimbabwe. Please make sure your items are sent to “Jessica Briggs’ Gift Registry Address” at check out.
