"The Garden Out Back," a photograph by Isabelle Hilder ’17, received a silver key award.

Two Riverdale students have been awarded national medals for creative writing in the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. Estelle Anderson '22 was awarded a Gold Medal for her short story, "The Acacia Tree," and Natalia Mercedes Rodriguez '19 earned a Silver Medal for her poem, "ToDoList."

Scholastic's 2017 national medalists represent less than 1% of total submissions. More than 330,000 works of art and writing were submitted this year, with only 2,740 medals awarded at the national level. Estelle Anderson's story will be featured in an exhibition at Parsons School of Design at The New School and at Pratt Institute's Pratt Manhattan Gallery from June 2-12.
