The Robert N. Butler Columbia Aging Center recognized Riverdale Country School for promoting generational diversity in its workforce at a breakfast at the Rainbow Room today.
The center noted Riverdale's sabbatical program for faculty with 10 or more years of service, its "passion grants" that allow employees to pursue a hobby or new interest in the summer months, and its willingness to consider job restructurings and reassignments to accommodate older workers.
The Aging Center interviewed 100 applicants from a range of industries across New York City; companies ranged in size from fewer than 20 to several thousand. Six companies, including Riverdale, were featured in a film about the award winners.
The Aging Center is part of the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia. The award also received support from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
