Dr. Ellen L. Bassuk, pioneering clinician and founder of the National Center for Family Homelessness, is the recipient of Riverdale's eighth annual Jolli Humanitarian Award. Nominated by Maddy Foley ’19, the award recognizes Dr. Bassuk's lifelong dedication to ending family homelessness by examining its root causes and developing effective responses. In the 1980s Dr. Bassuk authored the first study of homeless families, and continues to bring this issue to the forefront of America’s attention and policy agenda. Dr. Bassuk visited Riverdale today to talk to the Upper School about the current state of homelessness in America.

The Jolli Humanitarian Award, established by former Riverdale parent and school trustee Gregg S. Hymowitz, honors outstanding citizens whose contributions have fostered social, political, environmental, or cultural equity. The 9/10 Building is named for Dr. Bassuk this year.
