Athletes of the Week 2018-2019

Feb. 4 to March 4

Congratulations to Aaron Miller '19, Tobias Wolfson '20, and Kate Seklir '19, Athletes of the Week for the final week of the winter season.

At the NYSAIS Championships, Aaron won the 300 meter race and broke the school record with a time of 35.0. Aaron also qualified for the State Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships.

At the Ivy Champs, Tobias won the 3200m, 1600m and 1000m races for the second year in a row. At the NYSAIS Championships, he won the 3200m and 1600m, breaking the RCS record in the 3200 (9:45.78), qualifying for the State Federation Indoor Track and Field Championships.

At the NYSAIS Championships, Kate finished in 4th place in the 300 meter race breaking a school record with a time of 43.87.

Week of Jan. 28

Congratulations to Riley Palmer '22 (girls basketball) and Reid Slott '20 (boys basketball).

Riley scored 27 points and had nine rebounds for the week. She has been a terrific addition to our program.

Reid scored 45 points and had 17 rebounds and 18 assists. He took charge and helped to defeat Berkeley Carroll, Hackley, and Horace Mann.

Week of Jan. 21

Congratulations to Mari Binstock '20 (fencing) and Sam Klores '20 (basketball).

Mari won the individual girls saber championship at the Independent School Fencing League (ISFL) tournament.

The captain of the boys basketball team, Sam has led the team to an 18-3 record thus far in the season. He averaged 13 points, 4 steals, 4 assists, and 8 rebounds during the week.

Week of Jan. 14

Congratulations to Tyler DiMarco '21 (swimming) and Tobias Wolfson '20 (indoor track).

Tyler won the 200 Freestyle and the 200 Individual Medley races to lead Riverdale to victory over Dalton.

Tobias won the 1000M and 3200M at the Ivy races. He also finished second at the New Balance Games in the mile, breaking his own Riverdale record of 4:18.04.

Week of Jan. 7

Congratulations to Antonia Green '20 (squash) and Jake Timblick '22 (swimming).

A member of the squash team, Antonia was a part of the school's first ever win over Hackley. Down 0-2, Antonia won the third game and then forced a fifth game. Down 1-5 in the fifth, she came storming back to win 11-9.

A member of the boys swim team, Jake won both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events and led the team to their first win over Hackley in a decade.

Week of Dec. 10

Congratulations to Sophie Klessel '21 (girls basketball) and Noah Seeherman '20 (boys basketball).

Sophie scored 20 points and had 17 rebounds in two games for the girls basketball team. She led the way to a huge win over Fieldston, while also beating Brearley.

Noah scored 41 points and had eight assists and seven steals in two games for the boys basketball team. The Falcons beat Packer and Fieldston to bring their record to 5-0.

Week of Dec. 3

Congratulations to Sam Post '19 (girls basketball) and Nick Schwarz '20 (squash). 

Sam scored 21 points and had 22 rebounds and 10 blocks in three games for our varsity basketball team. 

Nick won all three of his matches against Leman, Grace Church, and Dalton.

Week of Oct. 29

Congratulations to Carolyn Brodsky '21 (tennis) and Tobias Wolfson '20 (cross country).

In the Ivy League championship, Carolyn was our only winner. Moreover, she played an opponent who had not lost a league match for more than four years. Carolyn played magnificently and won, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.

Tobias won the Ivy League championship for the second year in a row with a time of 12:53.4. He also won the NYSAIS championship for the second year in a row, breaking the Riverdale 5K record with a time of 16:11.20.

Week of Oct. 22

Congratulations to Kassia Taylor '21 (tennis) and Ethan Plous '19 (soccer).

Kassia won all three of her tennis matches in the Ivy League semi-final against Fieldston, Masters and Poly Prep. Losing the first set, 3-6, and down 4-5 in the second, Kassia came storming back to win 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 to get the team to the championship.

At Homecoming, Ethan scored the winning goal with 10 seconds left in the game. He beat Dalton's defenders to a rebound off a penalty kick and blasted a shot past their goal keeper, treating our fans to an amazing finish.

Week of Oct. 1

Congratulations to Bella Kaplan '19 (tennis) and Nathaniel Oakes '20 (cross country).

Bella, the #3 singles player on the team, won all three of her matches this week. She beat Columbia Prep 8-0, Staten Island Academy 8-4, and Hackley 6-0, 7-6.

Nano finished fourth at this week's Ivy Preparatory School League Cross Country meet with a personal best time of 13:54.1.

Week of Sept. 24

Congratulations to Julian Burden '19 (soccer).

Julian scored two goals and added two assists to lead our boy's soccer team to a terrific week beating Packer, Collegiate and Poly Prep.

Week of Sept. 17

Congratulations to Carolyn Brodsky '21 (tennis) and Ryan Chuang '19 (soccer).

At #1 singles, Carolyn led the tennis team to a 2-0 record beating Masters (2-0) and Fieldston (2-0). In the Fieldston match, Carolyn was down 0-5 in the second set and battled back to win seven consecutive games.

Ryan scored three goals this week, leading the soccer team to victories over Collegiate and Fieldston. 

Week of Sept. 10

Congratulations to Esme Fritton '21 (volleyball) and Tobias Wolfson '20 (cross country).

Esme had 36 assists, 19 aces, 10 kills, and 10 digs this week.

Tobias won the first Ivy Preparatory School League Invitational with a time of 13.02.9. This was a new Riverdale Country School record (breaking his own record!).

Week of Sept. 3

Congratulations to Harry Landis '20 (football) and Molly Fallek '19 (soccer).

In his first game as quarterback, Harry had four touchdowns, throwing for three and running for another as we beat Horace Mann on opening day, 32-14.

Molly had a hat trick in our soccer game against Horace Mann. We won 8-1.
