School Overview

Riverdale Country School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 independent school in New York City committed to empowering lifelong learners by developing minds, building character, and creating community in order to change our world for the good. Riverdale seeks to reflect the diversity of the New York metropolitan area in its students, faculty, and staff. The school enrolls about 1,100 students who collectively reside in 104 different zip codes. Approximately 37% of our student body are students of color. The school spans two separate campuses that comprise 27.5 acres in the Riverdale section of the Bronx.

Position Overview and Responsibilities

Lower School (LS) Spanish teachers at Riverdale have classes of approximately 20 students to allow faculty to cultivate strong relationships with each child. While many students are complete beginners or in the very early stages of Spanish language development, we expect faculty to follow a 90:10 model of instruction and provide children with scaffolding to access the target language. In addition, we encourage Spanish teachers to seek out cross-curricular connections that enhance engagement and understanding. Our Spanish teachers are members of a LS Spanish team that works collaboratively on curriculum development and reflects on instructional practice. Overall, faculty members are expected to engage in all aspects of work with an open mind, a positive disposition, and a willingness to support the greater community.
