Middle and Upper School Arts News & Stories
PICA, Riverdale's contemporary art studio class, is the subject of an online feature in the Independent School Magazine published by the National Association of Independent Schools.
Using a wide range of modes and strategies — including sound/video, performance, installation, publications, and web-based interactive murals, the class explores how art can function within a school and engage a community. The class seeks to cultivate a spontaneous collaborative spirit, developing projects for sites on the Riverdale campus and working with other classes in other disciplines.
With an emphasis on manifesting concepts more than developing traditional art skills, students are encouraged to develop projects reflecting their concerns and experiences. The class acts as an art collective, expressing ideas in innovative ways while investingating how art can make a difference.
