Riverdale hopes to repeat championship soccer teams this season.
Athletes began gearing up for the fall season this week as the boys soccer and football teams started preseason workouts. Riverdale's other fall teams — girls soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and boys and girls cross country — will report on Monday.
RCS is looking at impressive participation in sports this fall, with more than half of the Upper School trying out for a sport.
In particular, boys soccer tryouts have had a surge in numbers, and returning coach Andrew FitzGerald will be looking to defend last year’s NYSAIS title. Says Coach FitzGerald: "I've known most of these young men for five or more years and we have gone through the ups and downs of building a program together. I want nothing more than the best for my seniors and team as we approach the 2015 season. We will take every day as it comes and focus only on what we can control." Having graduated only three seniors last year, the Falcons are looking forward to a competitive season.
Girls’ Varsity Soccer Coach Orlando Osorio is also returning after a successful season. Last year’s Ivy League Champions had a strong group of senior girls, but Coach Osorio feels confident about the upcoming season. He expects Riverdale’s solid Junior Varsity feeder program, in addition to new prospects, to reinforce the remaining talent on the varsity team.
The athletic department is happy to welcome back our returning coaches, and look forward to combining their talent with the impressive new coaches hired over the summer.
