The Riverdale girls varsity soccer team lost an overtime penalty-kick shootout, 5-4, to Rye Country Day School in the New York State Association of Independent Schools' championship game on Sunday.
Last month, the team captured the Ivy Preparatory School League's championship, a title that it has held for four of the last five years.
Athletic Director John Pizzi said the girls had a remarkable season despite the heartbreaking loss at the end. "They did something pretty spectactular by winning the Ivy League," he said. "Personally, I think winning the Ivy League is harder to do. It is a double round-robin tournament, 12 games in two months."
The team finished the season with a 17-2-1 record.
