James Duval, the head of the Lower School at the Benjamin Franklin International School in Barcelona, has been named the new head of the Riverdale Lower School.
In making the announcement today, Riverdale Head of School Dominic A.A. Randolph said the search committee was impressed with Duval's nine years of experience as head of an international elementary school comparable in size to the Lower School.
The search was lead by Carney Sandoe, a global recruiting firm. Four finalists emerged from a field of about 70 candidates, and a search committee, including members of all school constituences, conducted interviews. Randolph said the committee "helped enormously in making this a very robust process of introspection and thoughtful consideration of the future needs of the school."
Duval is a graduate of the University of Virginia. He holds a masters degree from Teachers College, Columbia University, and is completing his dissertation in order to receive his Doctorate in Education from Lehigh University. He has taught in Seattle at the University Child Development School.
