Assemblies at the Lower School serve to celebrate and foster a sense of community. The entire division meets twice monthly in our gym, seated most often in the round with buddy pairings of older and younger students. Children enter and exit to to the sound of music performed by the Fifth Grade Band, Chorus, or String Ensemble. We then move to opening routines led by a Fourth Grade Color Guard, followed by announcements, including Happy Birthday wishes to students and adults celebrating birthdays that month.
The featured content of the assemblies consists of the presentation of stories, songs, poetry, and visual content focused on a particular theme such as Community, the Character Strengths, or School Spirit as well as performances by special guests who share musical/dance/theatrical offerings representing a wide range of cultural traditions. Most assemblies also include the performance of a community song sung by the entire Lower School as well as a group fitness activity led by the PE teachers.
