Riverdale's Student Life programs support the school's character education mission, providing formal and informal classroom support for the following areas of development:
- Identity and Belonging
- Social and Emotional Learning
- Health and Wellness
- Learning to Learn
Beginning in Pre-K, children learn essential concepts related to identity and belonging and skills related to social-emotional learning. Additionally, students learn to care for their personal health, physical health, and nutrition. In a dialogue that continues throughout their time at Riverdale, Lower School students engage in discussions about personal boundaries and human sexuality.
The Director of Student Life, the Lower School Counselor, the Dean of Students, and the homebase teachers work together to ensure that individual students are thriving, and that the school culture is aligned with the mission. Additionally, the Director of Student Life organizes professional development opportunities to provide teachers with resources to address the social and emotional needs of their students.
