The 9th Annual Riverdale Community Action Day was held on the RCS Hill Campus on Saturday, November 18th. Approximately 600 alumni, students, parents, and faculty participated in activities that supported and strengthened existing relationships with several of our local partners while simultaneously reconnecting with the Riverdale community. The fun-filled day included:

  • 185 new/unopened gifts wrapped and donated to Montefiore Hospital
  • More than 100 flower pots decorated, planted, and given to the elderly residents of the Hebrew Home of the Aged
  • 68 cards created for veteran patients at the Bronx VA Hospital
  • Approximately 1,500 children's and adult books collected and 145 bookmarks decorated for Hunts Point Alliance in the Bronx
  • 118 toys with decorated boxes given to children through Rosie's Theater Kids
  • 16 people donated blood, which will help approximately 51 patients through the American Red Cross
  • 9 people cut their hair to make wigs for women and children undergoing cancer treatment through Pantene Beautiful Lengths
  • More than 60 decorated canvas bags filled with food distributed through Hunts Point Alliance in the Bronx
  • 21 cat blankets, 2 bags of towels, and a number of animal beds, canned food, and accessories collected for pets awaiting adoption at Yonkers Animal Shelter
  • Nearly 60 bags of clothing donated to Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Services in East Harlem
  • 100 wires, 35 computers/monitors, 10 projectors, 10 speaker systems, 9 cameras, 7 tablets and much more collected through the Sustainability Committee eWaste drive for recycling
  • 1,200 diapers, 200 toothbrushes, 200 bars of soap, 200 packages of batteries and nearly 250 small bags of menstrual hygiene products collected for The Hispanic Federation’s Puerto Rico relief efforts
  • Nearly $1800 raised for Riverdale's Teacher Enrichment Fund through the bake sale and rice krispie treat decorating
  • Nearly 350 non-perishable food donations collected for City Meals on Wheels pantry
  • 12 bags of men’s clothing, 6 suitcases, and a box of toiletries donated to Saint Anthony’s Shelter
  • Nearly 200 decorations created for Children’s Village
  • 50 backpacks and assorted school supplies for children collected to be distributed by Leake & Watts
  • A game of dodgeball and basketball clinic in a gym packed with nearly 100 attendees with Riverdale Upper School athletes and athletes from the Challenged Athletes Foundation
